If I Go

The flash is blinding bright
And I came into
This world
Smaller –

I know the strength of
shifting earth,
upheaved tidal currents,
cosmic broken things built again,
but I am bound by
malleable bones,
the weight,
the ache,
of mortal decay.

I wish to grow.
There is only
so much room
within this skin,
hands shaking –

And Life is but
the flicker of a candle flame.
Soft glow gentle against
long shadows
seeping closer
and the black
soot spread of ash
scrawled upon the ceiling.

I hope to leave
As I was before I came,
As stars always are.
Giant
and
warm.
