Candle Drip

The stars change slowly
but sometime in your youth
you stop looking at them so intently
and then one day, by God,
they’re different, aren’t they?

Build a fire,
call it’s warmth and light
Home in the dark.

Beckon those
with feathers lost to waves,
washed half drowned upon the shore,
cold and shaking wet.

Under unfamiliar skies,
tell them:

Look me in the eyes,
See in them the light shining,
The falling of a comet.
There's a lesson there.
Have you learned it?
