A Beast, A Making

All the pretty ribbons tied up in bows,
Wrapped around fragmented bones.
An earthquake shake of heaving lungs,
The damning words un-swallowed.

Hallowed, how the sky fell
When a mild mind went awry
With small rests and little deaths,
Somewhere harsh and gentle.

Sunlight, moonlight,
Stars, then nothing.
Distant, lost to dreams,
A monster left to its own making.

Fingers clutched into claws,
Scraping into dirt, nails worn raw.
The moon shines, voices called to singing.
Oh, howl like the wolves, screaming.
